31 migrants rescued attempting Channel crossing
31 migrants trying to cross the English Channel overnight after one small boat’s engine cut out and the other boat began to take in water were rescued by French coastguards, local authorities in France reported on Sunday.
Several coast guards in Britain and France have reportedly intercepted several attempted crossings over the English Channel, including on boxing day when almost 50 suspected migrants were escorted to British shores after being discovered on a rescue and search operation.
French coast guards picked up 11 migrants and early on Sunday morning. The 11 migrants including two children were found in a small boat off the coast of port city and refugee hub Calais.
Another 20 were rescued by the same patrol boat along the French coast, close to Dunkirk, local authorities released in a statement.
Those rescued were given treatment as many were ill and suffering from hypothermia.
