Pakistan leaves 2019 in which some 370 terrorist attacks occurred in the country claiming the lives of 518 innocent civilians.

Local media quoting data released by Center for Research and Security Studies said Pakistan witnessed almost a 31% percent reduction in terrorist and counter terrorist fatalities in 2019 compared to 2018.

Only Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan splinter groups and Daesh claimed responsibility for attacks, claiming 12 and one respectively. The number of active members in this groups is expected to have declined by 30% due to fatalities this year. Civilian fatalities dropped by about 36%. An overall 30.71% drop in fatalities was observed in 2019 (980 in 2018 to 679 in 2019).

The largest drop in fatalities was observed in Belochistan (44.2%) followed by Fata (39%), Sindh (19%) and Punjab (11.8%).. Reports added that for the first time since 2004, there were no drone attacks recorded in the outgoing year.

This years numbers represent a 30% decline from the 739 fatalities from 400 terror attacks in 2018. Suicide bombing attacks dropped from 26 in 2018 to 9 in 2019. These attacks claimed 295 lives in 2018 but 56 in 2019.

Though civilians still formed the lions share of those who lost their lives, overall civilian casualties fell 36%. Government and security officials fatalities decreased by 19% while militants and insurgents had a 30% drop in their fatalities.

Only two militant groups in TPP and Daesh continued claiming responsibilities for terror attacks in spite of these attacks and the associated facilities significantly dropping.

Critics credit the declining rate of fatalities and attacks due to more militant apprehension of militants and militias belonging to banned groups.
