We are already going through uncertainty due to the spread of coronavirus. The pace of life has stopped and many have lost their lives in it. Remembering Allah Al-Hafiz at this time can be a source of comfort and strength for us. We believe that “Allah is the best of planners” (8:30).

This belief can be a source of strength for us in difficult times. It can strengthen our hearts, calm our minds, and control our activities. Allah has clearly said that He is the Guardian of all existence

“Surely my Lord is the Guardian of all things.” (11:57)

We can look at the Qur’an as an example of His preservation and protection because Allah said:

“I have sent down the Quran, and I am its guardian.” (15: 9)

How Allah Al-Hafiz preserves and protects the Quran

Written copies of the Quran are called ‘Mushaf’, and even if they are lost, the Quran will be safe. Similarly, the Qur’an cannot be changed. This is because of the lucky ones who have memorized this great book of Allah. They are called ‘Hafiz’ because the Arabic word hafiz means to preserve or protect something.

Even if all the ‘Mushaf’ is lost, there will always be many who have memorized the Quran by heart.

In this way, Al-Hafiz is fulfilling His promise to preserve and protect the Quran in this world.

Similarly, we believe that He will protect us and that He is our Protector. This is what is mentioned in the Quran:

“Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He is an ally to the righteous” (7: 196)

A story of China

Let me share a story I heard in my childhood.

“After all religions were banned in China, the government ordered a group of officials to go to a remote village and burn all copies of the Quran.

The people of the village, who were Muslims, gathered all the children on hearing this and taught each of them a surah so that they could memorize it. When the officials arrived, the villagers left all the Mushafs. And they burned all the copies of the Quran. They thought that the people of this village might be happily leaving their religion.

But they did not know that they had left only the copies of the Quran, but that the Quran and the religion were firmly entrenched in their hearts.”

Allah’s mercy overcomes His wrath

Allah says: “My mercy always overcomes my wrath!”

We have seen how Al-Hafiz protects the Quran from disappearing and protects it from change or expansion. Thus, the Quran will always exist as a source of guidance for all of us.

The purpose of the Quran is to guide mankind to the worship of Allah and to teach us how to lead our lives so that we may reach our highest potential in Jannah. If we follow the teachings of the Quran, we can hope that Allah will be pleased with us and admit us to Jannah (Paradise).

Steadfast in the way of worship

Allah has mentioned in the Quran that, the only purpose of our life is to worship Allah. As long as we are on the path of worshiping Him, we can expect His protection in every situation. He will preserve and protect our lives and beliefs so that we can fulfill our purpose, just as He protects and preserves the Quran so that the Quran can also fulfill its purpose. As stated in the Quran:

“And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out (to get out of trouble).” (65: 2)

So, no matter what situation we are in, we have to believe that our well-being lies in this situation. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“The matter of the believer is very surprising. Everything about him is good for him. No one has this feature except the believer. When he gains something pleasant, he gives thanks to Allah, and this thanksgiving is good for him. When he is faced with something painful, he is patient, and this patience is also good for him.” (Muslim)
