China largest jailer of journalists
At least 250 journalists are jailed around the world, with the most number being held in China, as authoritarian regimes around the world crackdown on independent media, a press watchdog group said on Wednesday.
The press freedom watchdog said it counted at least 48 journalist jailed in China, one more then in 2018. The New York based committee to Protect Journalists also cite Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Eritrea, Vietnam and Iran for jailing journalists.
Many of those imprisoned face “anti-state” charges, libel charge or are accused of producing “false news”.
