Curfew is lifted in Saudi Arabia
The citizens of Saudi Arabia went out for the first time in three months on Saturday night in celebration of a curfew that had been imposed throughout the entire country in order to curtail the spread of coronavirus.
Strict measures had been introduced throughout the kingdom in March in order to stop the spread of the virus. People were only allowed to leave their houses to shop for essential goods or to receive medical treatment. Otherwise a 24-hour curfew was imposed.
The kingdom has reported 157,000 covid-19 cases and 1,267 deaths from the virus. A phased return to normalcy began in May and the curfew was lifted completely yesterday.
Some restaurants marked the occasion with musical performances.
Some restrictions continue to be enforced. International travel is still banned as are gatherings of more than 50 people.
