Allah tells us in the Holy Qur’an: “Do not lose hope, nor be sad.” (Qur’an 3:139)

Sometimes we find it difficult to feel positive. We find it difficult to remember that our Lord is always protecting us and watching over us. We have natural feelings of fear, worry and concern.

In these situations, we should try our hardest to remind ourselves that if we rely entirely and only on Allah, we will feel more content and less distracted by our worries. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“And whoever puts all his trust in Allah, He will be enough for him.” (Qur’an 65:1)

We should firmly place our trust in out Lord in all matters and truly cement in our minds and hearts that ultimately He is our only source of help and only He has control over all matters.

When we feel sad or when we fear something, we may feel so low that we forget to make du’aa. It is in those very situations that we should be focusing on Allah and turning to him in humility when seeking His help. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“Call upon me, I will respond to you.” (Qur’an 40:60)

These are the words of our Lord. We often fail to make enough du’aa or do more ‘ibadah (worship) because we become to consumed by the matters that worry us. In reality, making du’aa to Allah in those situations is the only thing that will truly benefit us.

We should trust our Creator and Lord. We should realise that however difficult we find a situation, Allah already knows that. Allah sees what we are going through and only Allah knows what we can and cannot do. Only He knows what we can bear and what we cannot. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.” (Qur’an 2:286)

When we feel sad, we often feel alone too. We feel that no one truly understands the struggles we go through. However, there is no person who does not experience struggles. It is we who look for peace and contentment in the wrong places. The truth is, even though we may feel alone, we are not. Allah tells us in the Holy Qur’an:

“And He [Allah] is with you wherever you are.” (Qur’an 57:4)

We should think about this. Our Lord, Creator and Protector is with us wherever we are, so why should we feel alone? What does it matter if the humans he created don’t understand us ? Our Lord is with us. Our focus is on pleasing Him, not His creation.

Allah tells us in the Qur’an that we should not fear. He says:

“Do not be afraid; I am with you all the time, listening and seeing.” (Qur’an 20:46)

When the Creator of the universe is telling us that we should not fear, why should we be scared? Allah is with us all the time, through every hardship of ours, through every tear we cry – Allah sees everything. We should place our trust completely in Him. We should remember that this life is a test for us and it wasn’t meant to be perfect.
