Fire breaks out at Beirut port area, a month after the devastating explosion
A fire has erupted at Beirut port sending black smoke into the sky a month after the same port was devastated by an overwhelming blast.
The Lebanese Army has pledged to use helicopters to extinguish the fire.
Local authorities have urged citizens to stay away to protect their own safety as well as to avoid inhibiting the work of the emergency services.
According to state media the fire has broken out at a warehouse used for the storage of tyres and oil, however, the immediate cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.
The Lebanese capital is still recovering from the blast which took place on the 4th August. The explosion killed over 190 people, injured over 6,000 and destroyed thousands of homes and commercial premises.
