Getting Creative with Smartphones

Smartphones have evolved to become more than just a device we use to communicate with others, we use them for everything thanks to its fancy features. More so, smartphones like Samsung Galaxy Note 10|10+ allows us to blend in work and play together.

Tech reviews online argued that the Note 10|10+ is the best phones Samsung has to offer this year with its outstanding hardware, impressive battery life and awesome camera features.

SalamToday attended a fun-filled hands-on workshop called ‘Don’t’ Leave Home Without It’ hosted by Samsung Malaysia to discover and experience the power of Galaxy Note 10|10+. Participants from the workshop got to explore a few features of the phone: photography, videography and AR Doodle.

Commercial and fashion photographer Michael Yeoh together with professional illustrator Marianne Tan gave tips on how to make the best out of the features.

When it comes to photography and video, the aim is to achieve creative, clear and dynamic results. For videography, the Galaxy Note 10|10+ has a feature called the Advanced Super Steady which stabilizes the slightest of shakes and the bumpiest of action shots. The next time you want to shoot a person running on a skateboard or cycling, the movements will appear natural and smooth.

If you own a Galaxy Note 10|10+ , try out this feature. Here’s how it works:

  1. Launch the Camera app
  2. Switch to the rear camera, then select Video mode.
  3. Tap the Super steady icon (as seen in the video below).

When it comes to cinematography, Yeoh gave five tips to shoot perfect videos: wear softer shoes so that your movements are more fluid, shoot from a low angle, find the right lighting, make sure you focal length is on point and to make things more interesting, parts of the video can be filmed in slow motion.

In the Camera app, there is a Live focus function under the Video tab. This live focus feature lets you add various background effects including bokeh, which enables depth-of-field adjustments on your video to offer more artistic precision and control over the story.

Under the Live focus video feature, the user can choose to apply specialised effects such as blur, colour point, big circle and glitch.

The blur effect allows you to focus on your subject leaving the background blur, while the colour point isolates your subject in the video and turns the rest of the background black and white. Big circle on the other hand is effective with many lights in the background and glitch pretty much does as the name suggests.

Here’s how to shoot with the live focus video:

  1. Launch the Camera app
  2. Select Live focus video mode
  3. Select the effect you wish to apply

AR has certainly become more prominent in our lives. Now with the use of AR Doodle in the Galaxy Note 10|10+, we can make our videos pop with creativity.

The fun thing about the AR Doodle is that it lets you draw on objects around you, something we probably wish we could do years back. With the AR Doodle, you can let your imagination run wild. You can create personalised stickers for friends or doodle basically anything under the sun.

Here’s how to shoot with AR Doodle.

  1. Launch the Camera app.
  2. Select Video mode.
  3. Tap the icon (that looks like a scribble) to launch AR Doodle or use Air Command and select AR Doodle.
  4. Select Face or Everywhere.
  5. Select the pen style you want.
  6. Tap the Record button to shoot while drawing on a recognised face or space.
