Goal Setting and Life Planning
Setting goals in life, preparing your future and creating your own life purpose are all part of Islamic teachings. What is your intention in life, and how are you going to achieve your goals in this life and the hereafter? Islamic philosophy is very simple: we were created to worship Allah the Most Holy. That’s your intent, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be spending every waking hour in the Masjid or on a prayer mat. Allah wanted us to be an active participant in society for the Muslim and ordered us to go out into the world and pursue Allah’s bounties outside of the time of prayer. He says Most High: “And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse in the land and seek the bounties of Allah and be grateful to Allah so that you may be successful” – Surah Al-Jumuah, 10.
Allah tells us that nothing He has made is random or haphazard. Through His work, everything is done by design and measure. Everything is precise and just as Allah had planned. He, the Most High says: “Indeed everything that We have created is according to a measure” – Surah Al Qamar, 49
Our plans might not be perfect, and if we accept that right from the start, our plans aren’t going to be perfect, then we don’t have to constantly worry that we’ll fail. Since many of us also dread making plans because of the fear of failing to achieve such things. Bear in mind, everything we do is according to Allah’s will and plan. Our lives may not be going the way we planned it, but it is going exactly the way Allah planned it has stated in Quran, “ALLAH is the best of Planners”. (Quran 8:30).
