Having a Healthy Mindset is necessary in life

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, many of us around the world will have been asked to stay at home to stop the virus from spreading. However, there are many people who have vastly more serious worries than being asked to stay at home, and we should ask Allah sincerely in our du’aas to relieve every person of any stresses and suffering they have to face.

For those people who are isolating in their homes, looking after mental health and nurturing a healthy mindset is now more important than ever. Although it may be challenging, we should strive to face the gloomy feelings head-on and seek help from our Lord in order to properly take care of our mental and emotional health. We read in the Holy Qur’an:

“If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely.” (Qur’an 3:160)

We should try to remember to avoid thinking about the things in our lives that upset us. Sometimes this can be inevitable, in which case we should try to shift our focus and busy our minds with other things that are positive and better for our development as believers.

When we accept that there is something in our life that is difficult or upsetting and we know it will not change, instead of always thinking about it, we should embrace acceptance.

Acceptance will help us to have a healthier mindset. For example, we may worry about what other people think about the way we are living our lives or the choices we make. Ultimately, we should only be concerned with what is pleasing to our Creator. The more we focus on pleasing our Creator, the less worried we will be about the opinions of others.

We must make an effort to remind ourselves to be dedicated and sincere in our worship. By being sincere in our Salah, recitation and study of the Holy Qur’an, praying Tahajjud (night prayer), and du’aas, we will be aided in developing a healthier mindset. These things will help us to feel at peace.

We read in a hadith:

“When any one of you stands to pray, he is communicating with his Lord, so let him pay attention to how he speaks to Him.” (Bukhari)

We also ought to keep in mind the significance of waking up early. We will have more time to complete our daily tasks as well as ensure that we are not rushing our worship. Having a longer amount of time will assist in us to feel more calm during the day. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:

“O Allah, bless my nation in their early mornings.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

We have to aim to have a balanced diet to help us have a healthy mindset. It goes without saying that simple things like drinking the right amount of water, having a good breakfast and eating lots of fruit will change the way we feel in the day.

If we have not eaten correctly, we are more likely to feel tired and therefore any negative thoughts or feelings of ours will be more difficult to forget about. When we eat properly, it helps us to feel more awake and energetic, aiding us on our way to having a healthier mindset.
