As humans we do not have any control over our genetic set-point, and hardly have any control over our circumstances. But there is a percentage of happiness in Islam that everyone can gain is called ‘ridabilqada’ (being content with our lot in life).

This means that as mumin if we truly love Allah and trust Him, we are satisfied with what He Has judged for us. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would supplicate with words that would highlight the importance of satisfaction with our luck. Therefore we too should make the effort to recite these supplications:

“O Allah, make me happy with what you have provided me, send blessings for me therein, and place for me every absent thing with something better.” (Al-Bukhari)

“I am happy with Allah as my Lord, Islam as my religion, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as my Prophet.”(Abu Dawud)

Meaning of Happiness in Islam

In Islam, true happiness is contentment. And this is only attained through activities which are not temporary. So here are the 5 steps in the light of Qurʾan and Hadith which makes our lives happier:

Allah says, “Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he/she is a believer – We will surely cause him/her to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward in the Hereafter according to the best of what they used to do.” (16:97)

Sometimes in the course of life there are some sad moments that poison a person’s clear mind. This short life given by the Creator is filled with exhaustion!

But even after all this, Allah has bestowed upon the believing servant some blessings which help him to be happy forever. Let’s find out five effective tips on the way to a happy life.

1) Be grateful by giving up frustration

Despair is born out of a lack of gratitude. Life, the misery of the world, some moments sometimes push us towards despair. But with a little thought, we can realize that we have a lotof reason to be thankful for. Materials of gratitude for

the wise are scattered all over the world. So do good deeds, earn gratitude. And be happy. Remember the words of your Lord with this-

“And remember when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favor; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.” (14: 7)

2) Leave laziness and concentrate on work

The real meaning of the proverb ‘the useless brain is the devil’s factory’ is – if you somehow want to keep the brain a little empty, that space will never really be empty. Rather, Satan himself will take that place. So always keep busy at work! Besides, you didn’t make me sit idle. Think deeply about the purpose of our creation. There is no merit in sitting idle and being indebted to the world! And this increases the unrest of the mind.

Explaining the importance of working, Allah says, “And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.” (62:10)

3) Do charity by giving up waste

Capitalist society tempts us to waste and to be consumerist. The unhealthy competition for wealth keeps us intoxicated to death. But in this mortal world man survives through action, not money. A report published in a study by two UK universities states, ‘Those who donate, spend to give gifts to others, feel much happier! On the other hand, those who save for themselves have in most cases died of grief and unrest.’Soif you want to be happy, donate secretly. Donate every day. Donation is not just a sacrifice of money, but to speak with a smile isalso charity! If you want to make both this world and the Hereafter beautiful, there is no alternative to charity.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “When there is no shadow except the shadow of Allah, then Allah will give shade to seven classes of people under His Throne. (One of them is) a person who gives charity so secretly that even his left hand does not notice what his right hand gives.”

4) Be forgiving by giving up anger

It is better the sooner the bitter experiences in life are forgotten. Everything in the world is for the better. Good people bring good to our lives, and bad people

bring bad experience. Getting angry for something in the world is actually stupid. Because it destroys one’s own happiness. Think about it, our careless anger is the main reason for every regret in our life. Forgiveness is a great quality. So not everyone can forgive. And because of this he cannot be happy. So let us, like Hazrat Ali, forgive everyone for the sake of Allah only to be happy.

5) Leave the negative attitude and become positive

Practice good things, be benevolent. When you think of a negative thing, first of all your neurons are subconsciously accepting the negative. And raising your mind about it. So be positive. This will fill your life with welfare.
