Indonesia’s BPOM: Monitoring online sales of illegal products is challenging
Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) is facing challenges in monitoring the distribution of illegal and hazardous products through online sales, the agency’s head Penny Kusumastuti Lukito said.
“Our enemy is the online distribution of hazardous products,” Lukito stated during a discussion on the BPOM’s 2019 performance and 2020 outlook, on December 19.
Lukito added that people can easily make online purchases of drugs, food and cosmetic products, including those distributed without BPOM’s license, as well as fake and expired products that contain hazardous ingredients.
