Friday is called ‘Yaum Al-Jumuah’ in Arabic. Friday is a significant day in Muslim society. Muslims gather in the mosque to perform the Jumuah prayer. It is the religious duty of the Muslims to leave all their busyness before the Jumuah Adhan and go to the mosque in preparation for the Jumuah prayer.

In this regard Allah says,

“O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumuah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.” (62:9)

The significance of this day is given below in the light of the Quran and Sunnah:

Jumuah prayer and gift from Allah

Friday is a gift from the Almighty Allah for this Ummah. Allah has chosen this day as the greatest day for this Ummah over other prophets and their Ummah. The beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Surely Friday is the best day in the eye of Allah. In the sight of Allah, it is as better as the days of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha” (Ibn Majah)

Friday is one of the days that Allah has made virtuous and special in terms of deeds. There are many rules and historical events involved with this day. Friday is the most virtuous day of the week.

Friday is the best of the days when the sun rises. Friday has been termed as the weekly Eid day of the Muslims.

The torment of the grave is alleviated and small sins are forgiven

The sign of good fortune of a true Muslim who died on Friday. Because with the blessings of Friday, the person who dies on this day is freed from the torment of the grave. According to the hadith, if a Muslim dies on Friday or at night, Allah the Almighty protects him from the punishment of the grave.

If a Muslim performs the five daily prayers and the Jumuah prayer regularly and refrains from all kinds of big sins, then all the small sins are forgiven between the two Fridays because of the superiority of Friday.

Some specialties of Friday Jumuah Prayer

Friday is not just a gift from the Creator; Rather, Allah has filled the day with many special features. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “1. Adam (peace be upon him) was created on this day. 2. He has been sent to earth on this day. 3. This is the day he died. 4. There is a time on this day (after Asr) when anyone prays for anything other than Haram things, Allah grants it. 5. And on this day the Kiyamah will come.” (Ibn Majah)

On the Day of Resurrection, we will be foremost in all respects than the followers of other Prophets. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “We are the last Ummah; But on the Day of Resurrection we will be the forerunners. Although all the Ummah have been given the book before us and we have been given at the end of all. (Muslim)
