Learning about Paradise motivates us to stay on track with doing good deeds and avoiding what is displeasing to Allah. It reminds us that this life is a test and that it is temporary. We start to put more effort into preparing for the Hereafter as we realise that ultimate peace lies in Jannah (Paradise), so we have to work as hard as we can in order for Allah to grant it to us. We read in the Holy Qur’an:

“Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said, “When is the help of Allah?” Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near.” (Qur’an 2:214)

Each of our deeds will be accounted for, so we must make an effort to build on our good deeds. We read in the Holy Qur’an:

“And that is Paradise which you are made to inherit for what you used to do.” (Qur’an 43:72)

When putting in our best efforts in this life to live according to the teachings of our religion, we should remember not to become hopeless if we ever find it difficult. This life is a test for us and Allah sees our efforts. Our struggles and everything in this life are, by default, are temporary, whereas Jannah is eternal. We read in the Holy Qur’an:

“But they who believe and do righteous deeds – those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally.” (Qur’an 2:82)

Some of us may face struggles in life due to financial instability or be feeling low when others around us seem to be successful. We must remind ourselves that success in a materialistic society is not what Islam teaches us to strive towards. We should remind ourselves that true success is the attainment of Jannah.

We read in the Holy Qur’an:

“The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place.” (Qur’an 25:24)

Whenever we feel as though we are focusing too much on this life and seeking worldly things that only distract us from our faith, we should remember that Jannah should be our ultimate goal. It is the only thing that if we seek, we will not lose out. This is because our consciousness of trying to reach it will motivate us to do good in this test of life. We read in the Holy Qur’an:

“The ones whom the angels take in death, [being] good and pure; [the angels] will say, “Peace be upon you. Enter Paradise for what you used to do.” (Qur’an 16:32)

We should keep in mind that Allah describes Jannah by saying:

“And those who have believed and done righteous deeds – We will surely assign to them of Paradise [elevated] chambers beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers…” (Qur’an 29:58)
