Mass grave containing 643 bodies discovered in Iraq
A mass grave believed to date back to 2016 has been discovered near Fallujah, Iraq. It contains the remains of 643 civilians believed to be victims of Saqlawiyah Massacre.
All victims belonged to one tribe called al-Muhamdah. They had disappeared since 2016 and haven’t been heard from since.
Skulls, human bones, civilian clothing remains, including those belonging to children as well as traces of holes and handcuffs suggest that the massacre occurred in that place.
The area was taken back by Iraqi forces and Hashd al-Shaabi also known as the Shia Popular Mobilization Units later that year.
