Menses during Ramadan? 10 things to do
The issues of women are different in terms of the duties of fasting. Because of the way men are able to fast, it is not the case with women. This is because every month women spend some time when they are not able to pray, touch the Qur’an, and fast.
But will women spend this time lazily in the spring season of worship? Not at all. There are many acts of Shariah that they can do during this period. Here are some of them that women can do on their menses during Ramadan:
1) Listen to the Qur’an recitation on menses during Ramadan
Regarding the granting of mercy to His servants, Allah says, ‘So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.” (7: 204)
In this verse, Allah has made it an occasion to listen to the recitation of the Qur’an as a mercy for the believing servant. Although it is forbidden for women to touch the Qur’an during menstruation, there is no restriction on listening to the recitation of the Qur’an. So they can spend this precious time of Ramadan by listening to the recitation of the Quran.
2) Read the Tafseer and meanings of the Qur’an
Allah says, “Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.” (4: 82).
In this verse, Allah is encouraging us to understand the meaning of the Qur’an. Because if we do not understand the meaning of the book that has been sent down for our guidance and do not try to understand it, then how can we answer to Allah? Therefore, women should spend this leisure time studying the meaning and Tafseer (commentary) of the Qur’an.
3) Make Dhikr and Dua on menses during Ramadan
Dhikr (remembrance) and Dua (supplication) are two acts for which Allah has not laid down any condition. Even in the state of impurity, people can be engaged in the Dhikr and Dua. Always, in all cases, there is no problem in remembering Allah except ablution; Rather it is a work that is highly commendable. Therefore, women should be more engaged in Dhikr and Dua at this time.
Always, in all cases, there are instructions in the Qur’an about remembrance. Allah says, “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth …” (3: 190-191)
However, care should be taken not to do Dhikr and Dua in the toilet or in an unclean place.
4) Give more charity
The virtues of charity are much greater in Ramadan than at any other time. The Prophet (SAW) and his Companions used to give a lot of charity in Ramadan. In this case, women also have great opportunities. As the ruler of the family, they can extend a hand of sympathy to the poor and needy this month if they wish. By this, the special mercy of Allah can also be expected.
5) Treat everyone with elegance
If you fast, you will feel hungry and thirsty – this is normal. Its effects are largely reflected in behavior. So if someone in the family treats women a little harshly because of fasting, then women should be gentle and elegant without getting angry. Many women having trouble with domestic work have a bad mood. They should avoid it.
6) Eliminate unnecessary work if you have menses during Ramadan
Qur’an and Sunnah instruct us to refrain from useless and unreasonable deeds. Although this order is for all time. But its importance increases during Ramadan. The whole day of Ramadan will be equal to worship – that is desirable. Even if someone does not do any external worship, he/she will have a meditative idea towards worship. Care should be taken not to do anything that would ruin the sanctity of fasting.
7) Serve and obey her Husband
It is obligatory for all Muslim woman to obey their husbands in all matters of good. She is promised Paradise for fulfilling her obligations unto her husband.
The Prophet (SAW) said: “If a woman prays five (daily) prayers and keeps her private parts chaste and obeys her husband, she will surely enter Paradise from any of the doors she wishes.”
So, whether a woman is on her menses or not she should do her utmost to serve and obey her husband in the best manner possible for the pleasure of Allah. And in doing so she will not only be pleasing Allah but she will gain immense and unimaginable rewards.
8) Serve her parents
Serving parents is an act through which women can easily earn paradise. The rights of the parents are foremost among the rights of the slaves of Allah. The child should be kind to the parent and will not hurt them. In this connection, Allah says: “And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment …” (46: 15). Therefore, considering this period as a good opportunity, women should serve their parents more.
9) Be restrained in speaking
Women need to be restrained in speaking. They have a notoriety for being more talkative. Slander, backbiting, or gossip about nonsense are their traditional habits. It is also mentioned in the hadith that more women will go to hell because of these faults. Besides, these things are very harmful to one’s own and others’ fasts. Therefore, women should be as restrained as possible in speaking during Ramadan.
10) Be polite in movement
It is a part of fasting to refrain from meeting biological needs and not to face any such situation. The open conduct of women is as harmful to their own chastity as it is to the weakening of the fast of other men. Therefore, if women want to go out on the day of Ramadan, they should go out with decency.
