Philippines Typhoon Kammuri: 17 dead and hundreds of thousands displaced
Typhoon Kammuri has left 17 dead. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and countless homes have been destroyed across the Philippines.
Five people died in the Bicol region on the southern tip of the main Luzon island. 11 others died in other parts of Luzon, and one death was in Visayas, according to reports from police and local disaster management agencies.
As of Wednesday, tropical cyclone wind signals were lifted for ten out of approximately one hundred areas that were placed on alert this week, according to the nation’s weather bureau. As the typhoon neared it’s exit, it was downgraded to a Severe Tropical Storm.
