PM Hariri of Lebanon sends aid appeal to major powers
Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri on Saturday wrote to the leaders of Spain, Germany and Britain to request help in securing credit for imports. This comes after Prime Minister Hariri wrote to leaders of France, Russia, Turkey, the United States, Egypt, China and Saudi Arabia to seek help to finance imports of essential goods.
The letters were written as Hariri aimed to deal with liquidity shortages and to secure basic import needs for citizens to combat food insecurity and ascertain raw materials to continue production.
This comes on the back of Lebanon’s worst economic crisis since the civil war which has seen protests erupt against the ruling elite.
