Police provide security for new US$120,000 banana
Police have placed several officers on duty to stand guard around a replacement banana artwork valued at tens of thousands of dollars after the original was taken off the wall and eaten at an art gallery in Miami, Florida.
After Italian sculptor Maurizio Cattelan’s banana artwork was sold for $120,000, it was eaten on Dec. 7 by David Datuna, a performance artist, who shared his stunt on various social media platforms.
Datuna said the artwork was delicious and that he admired Cattelans works. Fortunately for the buyer, the artwork has a certicate of authenticity that enables replacement of the banana.
