Scrumptious Recipes Perfect For Iftar!

Meals vary from one place to another for Muslims breaking their fast throughout Ramadan. Of course, it is ideal to break the fast with 3 dates, as it is an act of sunnah. Inevitably, we would want to indulge in a meal afterwards. But fasting the whole day doesn’t entitle us to overeat, in fact we should still be mindful of what we put on our plates.

It’s not wrong to indulge in delicious meals but keep it moderate and most importantly as healthy as it can be. Here are some recipe ideas that are simple yet healthy and wholesome for your iftar!


Before you reach for sweet drinks to quench your thirst after a whole day of fasting, why not try fruit infused water? This is extremely simple and easy to do and a nice alternative to plain water. But it’s important to use fresh and good quality fruits. The great thing about this is that you can get creative and choose to include any fruits of your choice. Here are some suggestions.

Lemon Mint

Cut about 5 slices of lemon, and add it to a 1 litre water jug. Add about 8 muddled fresh mint leave, and fill it with water. Gently stir it and leave it in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Watermelon Mint

Add about 1 cup of chopped fresh watermelon to a 1 litre water jug, and about 15 muddled leaves of mint and water. Store in the refrigerator overnight or 4 hours to infuse.

Strawberry Watermelon

Add about 1 cup of watermelon and about 10 fresh strawberries that are washed and sliced into a 1 litre jug. Fill it with water and infuse it overnight or for 4 hours in the refrigerator.

  • 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil
  • 350g of chicken breast (or beef), chopped
  • ½ cup water
  • 10 flour tortillas
  • Grated cheddar cheese (amount depends on you, the cheesier, the better!)
  • 1 red or green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • Taco seasoning
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste


1.Saute the chicken, red (or green) bell pepper separately with vegetable oil, taco seasoning and salt and pepper to your preferred taste

2.Place a tortillas and sprinkle cheese (as much as you’d like) on the surface before adding equal amounts of the sautéed ingredients and fresh tomatoes.

3.Place another tortilla on top, and gently toast it in a frying pan, toasting both sides until the cheese melts.

4.When done, cut quesadillas into wedges and serve with a dipping of your choice (guacamole, sour cream, salsa).
