Surah

Allah has sent down the whole Quran in a blessed and virtuous way. There is reward in every letter and word of it. So when it comes to award, the whole Quran is virtuous. Each of its teachings is the best gift for mankind.

However, there are some Surahs (chapters) which have a different status from all other chapters. There are also a number of verses, the virtues of which have been narrated in many separate hadiths.

Some of the virtuous chapters and verses are discussed below-

1) Surah Al-Fatiha

Surah Fatiha is called ‘Ummul Quran’. That is, a summary of the entire Quran.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,

“Allah has not sent down any surah in the Torah and the Injil like the ‘Ummul Quran’.

It is called ‘As-Sab’ul Machani’ (7 verses recited repeatedly), which is divided between Allah and His servants. And for the true servant, Allah gives that which he wills.” (Nasa’i)

Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once Gabriel (was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Suddenly Gabriel heard a sound from above and looked up at the sky and said, “Today a door of the sky has been opened, which has never been opened before. An angel came down through the door and came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and said, “Take the good news of two lights; which has been provided to you. And it was not given to any prophet before you. These are the last two verses of Surah Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Baqarah.” (Muslim)

2) Surah Al-Baqarah

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Do not make your home like a grave (that is, perform the supererogatory prayers at home); and in the house where Surah Al-Baqarah is recited, Satan flees.” (Muslim)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) added,

“If one recites the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah at night, that is enough for him for that night.” (Bukhari)

3) Surah Ale-Imran

Nawas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying, “On the Day of Resurrection, those who act according to the Quran and the Quran will be gathered. Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Ale-Imran will be in the forefront. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave three examples of these Surah which I will never forget. He said, “These two Surah will come in the form of two shading clouds or two black sheets, with a flash of light in the middle or two flocks of birds in a row, and will continue to argue in its favor for its readers.” (Muslim)

4) Surah Al-Kahf

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever memorizes the first ten verses of Surah al-Kahf (the last ten verses according to another narration) will be saved from the temptation of the Dajjal.”

In another hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, the light will continue to shine until the next Jumu’ah.”

5) Surah Al-Mulk

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“There is a surah of 30 verses in the Quran which will be recommended for its reader. As a result, he will be forgiven. And that Surah is Surah Al-Mulk. ” (Tirmidhi)

It has also been narrated in another hadith that the reciter of this Surah will be saved from the torment of the grave.

6) Surah Al-Waqia

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“Whoever recites and learns Surah Waqia, his name will not be written in the list of the heedless. He and his family will never be mired in poverty.’

6) Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas

Abdullah ibn Khubayb narrated from his father, “One rainy night we went out in search of the Messenger of Allah (peace Allah be upon him) to pray for us in deep darkness. I went to a place and saw him. Then he said, “Tell me.” I said nothing. He said again, “Tell me”. I said nothing. He told me again, “tell me”. I asked, what to say? He said, ‘Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas three times in the morning and evening; And that will be enough for you in all things.” (Tirmidhi)

May Allah grant us the grace to recite more and more of these blessed Surah from Holy Quran. Ameen
