Anxiety and frustration are diseases of the human mind. These cause many physical ailments in humans. In daily life we face many problems. Which later gave rise to anxiety and frustration.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught his Ummah innumerable supplications to alleviate this mental turmoil and anxiety. The following are some of the important duas from the collection of Hadith:

La-ilaha illallah Al-‘Alimul haleem, la-ilaha illallah Rabbul ‘arshil ‘azim, la-ilaha illallah Rabbus Samawati wa Rabbul Ard wa Rabbul ‘arshil karim.

Meaning: There is no god but Allah, the Great and the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Throne. There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and the great throne. (Bukhari and Muslim)

2) Dua for anxiety or pain

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “If anyone ever recites this dua due to anxiety or pain, Allah will remove his anxiety, remove the pain and instead calm his heart.” It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Don’t we have to learn this dua?” He said, “Of course. Anyone who hears these dua should memorize it.

Meaning- O Allah! I am your servant and the child of your servant and slave. My destiny is in your hands. All your commands are effective against me and your judgment on me is based on justice. I beseech you for every one of those names which you have ordained for yourself, or sent down in your Book, or taught to any one of your creatures, or preserved for yourself in the store of knowledge. Make the Qur’an a peace for my heart, a light in my bosom, a remover of my worries, and a remover of my anxieties. (Musnad Ahmad)

3) Danger or trouble

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to make this supplication whenever he faced any serious danger or trouble.

“Ya Haiyu, Ya Qaiyum, bi-rahmatika astaghith”

“O Eternal One, O Everlasting One, embrace me in your mercy.” (Tirmidhi)

4) Supplication for distress

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I am aware of a supplication that if a person in distress recites it, Allah will remove that danger from him. That is the prayer of my brother Yunus (AS). The two are,

La-ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaj-jalimin.

Meaning: O Allah! There is no true god but you; I am describing your holiness. Surely I am one of the unjust. (Tirmidhi)

5. When you worry

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to Abu Umama (may Allah be pleased with him), “Shall I not teach you a supplication which, if recited, will alleviate your worries and make arrangements for the recovery of all your debts?” The narrator said, “I said, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah! You must teach me that.” He said, “You will read these dua in the morning and in the afternoon,

Allahumma inni a’uju bika minal hammi wal hazani, wal azjhi wal kasali, wal bukhli wal zubni, wa dalaid-daini wa glabatir-rizal

Meaning: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from being anxious and frustrated. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness. I seek refuge in You from stinginess and cowardice. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the Excessive Debt and the founder of unjust dominance and authority.

Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I started reciting these two verses.” Then within a few days Allah removed all my worries and troubles and arranged for the repayment of all my debts. (Bukhari)

6) To seek more and more apology

Astagfirullah hallazi la-ilaha illa huwal Haiyul Qaiyum, wa atubu ilaihi.

Meaning: I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all things, and to Him I turn.

May Allah grant us to act on these dua. Ameen.
