One of the best and most glorious days of the week is Friday. What are the important things to do on Friday? Many authentic hadiths have been narrated in reliable hadith books about the virtues of this day. Narrated from the famous Companion Abu Hurairah (R), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Friday is the best of the days when the sun rises. Adam (AS) was created on this day. On this day he was also admitted to Paradise and again on this day he was expelled from Paradise.” (Muslim)

In another hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Friday is the best of days and it is more honorable in the sight of Allah.” (Ibn Majah)

Eight important things to do on Friday

Many acts of this glorious day have been narrated in Hadith. Some of them are mentioned below-

1. Taking a bath

2. Wearing good clothes.

3. Using perfume.

4. Listening to the sermon attentively.

These four things have been narrated together in a single hadith. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that a person should take a bath on Friday and wear good clothes and use perfume if he has one. Then he should come to the Jumu’ah prayer and does not go over the body of the other worshipers. Then perform the prescribed prayers. After that, he should keep silent from the time the Imam goes out for the sermon until the salutation. Then this act of his will be the expiation for all the sins from the previous Friday to the next Friday. (Abu Dawood)

5. Going to the mosque quickly

The important act of this day is to go to the mosque quickly. Allah says: “O you who believe! When the call to prayer (Adhan) is made on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and stop trading. That is better for you if you only knew.” (62: 9)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The angels are at the door of the mosque on Fridays and write the names of those who have come before them in order.

The one who comes first is the one who gets the reward of sacrificing a fat camel. The one who comes next is the one who gets the reward of sacrificing a cow. Then the person who arrives is like the one who gets the reward of donating a chicken. Then when the Imam came out for giving a sermon, the angels stopped writing and listened to the sermon attentively.” (Bukhari)

6. Recitation of Surah Al-Kahf

One of the special acts of this dignified day is the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf. Narrated Abu Saeed Khudri (R), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The light will be brightened up to two Fridays for the person who recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday.”

7. Send Blessings upon the Prophet (PBUH)

Another act of this day is to send more and more blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). In this context, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Friday is the best of days. On this day Adam (AS) was created. He also died on this day. The trumpet will be blown on this day. On this day all the creation of Allah will be made unconscious. So send to me more and more blessings on this day. Because your recited blessings are presented before me.” (Abu Dawood)

8. Emphasis more on dua

An important, special act of Friday is to concentrate more on dua. Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (R), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There is a special moment in the twelve hours of Jumu’ah when Allah accepts the supplication of a Muslim.” (Abu Dawood). So, try to emphasize more on dua on this day.
