Syrian Documentary wins best film at British Independent Film Awards

Syrian documentary, “For Sama” won best film at British film independent awards on Sunday. The film beat out a host big names including Armando Ianucci’s Dickensian tale, “A Personal History of David Copperfield” staring Dev Patel, Joanna Hoggs “The Souvenir” and Mike Jenkins “Bait”.

The film was a collaboration between emmy award winning directors, Waad Al-Khateab and Edward Watts. The film is personal for Al-Khateab as she tells her story of a Woman’s and specifically a young mothers experience of civil war. The deeply moving film won a total of four BIFA’s on the night.
