Islam encourages a mother to focus on being an ideal mother and attaches great importance to this. The role of mother in a family is very important. The overall responsibility of conceiving the child and also nurturing the child depends on the mother alone. Allah says,

“The mother bears the child in the womb and gives birth to it. (Qur’an 31:15)

Mother’s role in the formation of the child’s character

In the light of Holy Quran and Hadith, an ideal mother should keep a sharp eye on the following matters:

  • At first, the mother has to develop herself in that ideal, in which she wants to raise her child.
  • The mother’s relationship with the child should be intense.
  • In an ideal family, the mother should look at the child with respect, just as the child look at her personality with respect.
  • Teach children authentic Islamic beliefs.
  • Remember to never argue or quarrel with your husband in the presence of the children.
  • Sometime, tell your children constructive truths and advanced stories.
  • Send the boys to the mosque for five daily prayers with their father, brother or friends and encourage girls to pray at home with you.

Pious mother pious child

The mother has to create the environment in such a way that the child fully abides by the religious rules and regulations. The mother is responsible for all the inconsistencies of the child. So at first, the mother has to be the first to purify herself and practice religion to purify her child. If the mother is indifferent to religious matters, then the child will never obey the mother’s instructions in this regard. So, if there is any shortcomings in mother’s religious devotion, it should be fixed quickly. If they are flawless, then the child will also be flawless. It is the mother’s duty to build a cordial relationship with the child. Be aware and cautious in their behavior, speech and movement. Also, mother must understand child’s mentality. She has to be sincere in meeting their needs.

To all the children of the world, the word ‘mother’ means the strongest relationship, as well as the most sacred and sweetest word. A loving mother is the first thing that comes to mind as a place of absolute comfort and reassurance during the extreme crisis of a child’s life.

Heaven under mother’s feet

In the absence of an ideal mother, the individual, society and nation are bound to be endangered. So, the position or status of a Muslim woman in Islam as a mother is unimaginable. It is said in many hadiths about the mother that, “The paradise of the child lies under the feet of the mother.” In this short hadith, the view of Islam about mother is very widely stated. Thus, the satisfaction of the mother is an essential responsibility of a child.

Islam, the religion of peace, justice and humanity, has given mother indescribable dignity and respect. In the eyes of Islam, mother is three times more important than father. In this context it has been narrated in the hadith that Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked, O Messenger of Allah! Who has the right to receive the best service from me among the people? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘Your mother.’ The man asked again, “then who?” He said, “Your mother.” The man asked again, “then who?” He said, “Your mother.” The man asked again, “then who?” He said, “Your father.” (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim)

Mother is ideal

Mothers are usually ideal for children. Islam did not give any very difficult conditions to be an ideal mother. The matter is not very difficult. Many times mothers do a lot of extra work, which Islam has not forced them to do. For example, raising a child. In our country, it would not be wrong to say that the mother usually takes care of the child. The mother is always busy for her child from morning to going to bed. How hard they work! And the father usually stays busy all day with his work.

If a mother only believes in Allah and His Messenger and can fulfill her duties properly, then her Hereafter life will be successful.
