Children are a sacred trust from Allah to us. Meeting their physical and mental needs is not just our responsibility. Rather, it is our duty to protect children from all kinds of harmful substances.

That is why the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“All of you are a shepherd (responsible). And everyone is responsible for his subordinates. A person is the shepherd (responsible) for his family and he is responsible for the care of all of them.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave us some advice to protect our young children from various kinds of evil. Five such important tips are briefly discussed below.

1) Dua to protect children

The Prophet (peace be upon him) often prayed to Allah for the safety of his beloved grandsons Hasan (R) and Hussain (R).

“I seek refuge in the full word of Allah from all kinds of devils, beasts, and evil eye.”

In this way we can take the advice to pray to Allah morning and evening for the safety of our children.

2) Recite the last 3 chapters of Quran and Ayatul Qursi

The last three chapters of the Quran, namely Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq and Surah Nas, have special virtues and importance as part of supplication to Allah for safety. to protect children they can be breathed by reciting these Surahs; which will protect them from all kinds of evils inshaAllah.

Ayesha (R) said: ”The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to fold his hands before going to bed and recite Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq and Surah Nas and blow on his hands. Then he would massage his hands all over his body and do this three times.” (Bukhari)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to a Companion named Ibn Abis al-Juhani (R), “O Ibn Abis! Shall I not tell you of the best things that will provide security for those who find secure? ” He replied, “Surely, O Messenger of Allah!” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, “Surah Falaq and Surah Nas.”

Similarly, verse 255 of Surah Baqarah of the Quran, (i.e. Ay Ayatul Qursi), is a well-known practice of seeking refuge in Allah from the plots and evils of Satan. Parents can breathe on their child by reciting these three Surahs and Ayatul Kursi every day.

3) Surah Al-Baqarah to protect children

If Surah Al-Baqarah is recited in a house, it keeps Satan away from that house. It is important to keep the devil away from your house to keep your family safe from various evil deeds such as evil eye, subjugation, black magic, etc.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Make your houses like graves for Satan. And in the house where Surah Al-Baqarah is recited, Satan flees from that house.” (Muslim)

Another hadith states,

“Whoever recites Surah Al-Baqarah in his house at night, Satan will not be able to enter his house for three nights.” And whoever recites it in his house during the day, Satan will not be able to enter that house for three days.” (Tabarani)

4) Etiquettes in the Toilet

The toilet is a dirty and unclean place. And Satan and his associates are attracted to such dirty places. That is why the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us how to use the toilet so that we can avoid the plots and harms of the Satan. It is the duty of parents to teach their children these rules.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught dua after entering and leaving the toilet. And those who recite these two duas are guaranteed protection from the evils of Satan.

So we should learn the duas ourselves and teach them to the children. That’s why you can hang these du’as in a place where they can be seen before and after entering the toilet and through this it becomes a habit for everyone to read.

5) Caution during Maghrib time

The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade children to go out of the house during Maghrib time. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“When evening comes, bring your children into the house, for the devil is out of the way. You can let them go again after an hour of nightfall.”(Bukhari and Muslim)

The advice that the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave us to protect children is correct, good and complete advice. By following his advice, we can protect children from various kinds of harm and provide them with perfect security.

May Allah grant us the grace to follow all these advices. Ameen.
