This Life Was Never Meant To Be Jannah (Paradise)
We may often feel shaken by our hardships, losses and sadness. We may become distracted from our worship by our worldly possessions.
However, it is crucial for us to look at the bigger picture of this life. Allah did not put us in this world for us to have a perfect life in which every person will be pleased with us, in which we will never experience sadness, and in which we will never lose anything. Neither are we here to find ultimate and eternal peace. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:
“Surely the Hereafter is much netter for you than the present life.” (Qur’an 93:4)
This life is not Jannah (Paradise), neither did our Creator write that this life would compare to Jannah. We should not try to seek Jannah in this world, as we will forever be disappointed. This life is temporary and a test – Jannah is not. We read in the Holy Qur’an that Allah says:
“He who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed.” (Qur’an 67:2)
We may not realise, but we may have expectations, deep down, to find a Jannah in this world. It may not be obvious to us, but as humans we often do.
For example, we seek unconditional care from the creation of Allah. We seek everlasting happiness in our careers, families, friends and hobbies. We put so much hope in these things – so much hope that when a time comes that any of these things ever become the cause of our sadness, we feel more lost than we have ever felt.
When we are faced with hard times, we should remind ourselves that everything that happens was written to happen by our Lord. Our struggles will bring us closer to Him. We read in a hadith that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“When Allah desires good for someone, he tries him with hardships.” (Bukhari)
We should remember that Allah did not write for this world to be Jannah. This life is purely temporary and a test for us so that we may strive to be steadfast and please our Lord. We were not created to reside eternally in this world and seek everlasting happiness here. Allah says in Holy Qur’an:
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.” (Qur’an 51:56)
Therefore, we should strive to not become attached to worldly matters and the creation. The duration of our life in this world is incomparable to Jannah as Jannah and the Aakhirah (Hereafter) are eternal. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“The life of this world compared to the hereafter is as if one of you were to put his finger in the ocean and take it out again then compare the water that remains on his finger to the water that remains in the ocean.” (Sahih Muslim).
