Turkey’s President Erdoğan: Two cities will be built as part of project Kanal Istanbul
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has vowed to establish the Kanal Istanbul project despite the opposition and said the government plans to build two “modern cities” as part of the project.
“Whether they want it or not, we will build Kanal Istanbul. There are more than 50 such channels in the world, all these channels are made according to a need,” he said on December 30, speaking at the 2019 awards ceremony of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).
“We will establish two modern cities while making Kanal Istanbul,” he said, noting that the government will rely on its national budget or make a build-operate-transfer agreement.
