Sadaqah Jariyah in Islam are acts that have important rewards in both this world and the hereafter. They are like a longterm act of kindness that continues to bring blessings of Allah (SWT) so long as it helps others throughout the time. Thus, Sadaqah Jariyah is a system of investing into good deeds which will be rewarded in their sincerity by Allah (SWT).

The Quran says, “Surely the men who give sadqah and the women who give sadqah and have advanced a good loan to Allah SWT; for them, it will be multiplied and for them, there is a noble reward.” (Qur’an 57:18)

There are multiple ways we can perform Sadaqah Jariyah that continues to be rewarded even after our death. Some of the key examples are sponsoring a child or an orphan, spreading the teachings of Islam, construction of a mosque, a school or water well.

The youth of today is our future. We must equip them in the best way possible so that their future is secure. Every child is valuable and is entitled to an education in order to acquire the skills that he needs to prosper in life.

Partaking in sponsoring a child can be a great deed in the form of Sadaqah Jariyah for years to come and can bring a positive change in the life of that child.

Knowledge and awareness are something that is commonly missing in society. Presently, due to the lack of adequate knowledge, practices are followed imprecisely. A Muslim can play an immense role in spreading knowledge. Moreover, converting people to Islam can also prove to be Sadaqah Jariyah, though Allah (SWT) warns against forceful spreading of faith.

When a person who has converted to Islam follows your advice and performs all the religious activities and later shares that knowledge with someone else, it is you who are gaining rewards at every step of the way.

Similarly, teaching someone how to read and understand the Holy Quran can result in a continuous cycle rewards. Even after you die, every time that person performs the recitation of the Holy Quran or teaches it to someone else, it is you who ultimately gets the benefit.

Clean water is a blessing that we often neglect. We forget how important clean water is to us in terms of drinking it, as well as for our hygiene and sanitation. Numerous slums around us have no access to clean water. This can be another way through which one can perform Sadaqah Jariyah.

You can thus donate to an Islamic charity that is working towards making clean water accessible by constructing wells or hand pumps. Although this act may seem quite simple, the effect can be immense. You shall continue to be rewarded for as long as people are benefitting from it.

Throughout our life, we spend most of it investing in goals that have benefits limited to this lifetime. We should also focus however, on making our hereafter just as peaceful.

The Quran says: “The semblance of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah SWT, is as the likeness of a grain of corn, which grows seven ears and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah SWT gives manifold increase to whomever He pleases. Allah SWT is All-Sufficient, All-Knowing.” (Qur’an 2:261)
