The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If anyone has a date palm in his hand at the last moment of Resurrection, let him plant it.” (Musnad Ahmad)

No one will get any fruit from this planted tree because the last moment of resurrection is mentioned here, yet why is it said to be planted? This hadith reflects the important teaching of Islam.

Work hard for Duniya and Akhirah

There are no different paths for Duniya (this world) and for Akhirah (the Hereafter), the two paths are the same. The path to the Hereafter is called ‘Ibadah’ (worship) and the path to this world is called ‘work’.

The path for the two is the same and the two things have come together in one way. This path begins in this world and ends in the Hereafter. This is a path where worship is no different from work; In the eyes of Islam both are the same thing and the position of both is side by side.

Once reunited, their destination and purpose become the same. For the believer, all the work of the world is Ibadah and through Ibadah, the worldly work also becomes easy and lively.

Every work of a Muslim is Ibadah

Just as body and soul cannot be imagined separately, so can worship and work. If the purpose of deeds like worship reaches Allah, then every deed is considered worship.

Narrated Abu Jarr: Some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him, “O Messenger of Allah! Wealthy people have gone ahead with the work of reward. The way we pray, they pray like us. We fast, they fast just like us. But they donate extra resources they need and we can’t.”

He said, ‘all Tasbeeh (Subhanallah) is Sadaqah, all Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) is Sadaqah, all Tahmid (Alhamdulillah) is Sadaqah, all Tahlil (La Ilaha Illallah) is Sadaqah, ordering and advising every good deed and forbidding evil deeds is also Sadaqah. There is Sadaqah (charity) in every part of your body.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah! Will any of us indulge in lust and will he be rewarded for it?”

He said, “Tell me if he had done it in a Haram way, would he not have been a sinner? In the same way, when one acts lawfully, he will be rewarded.” (Muslim)

There is no place for despair after hard work and perseverance in the teachings of the Prophet (be upon him). Take action, work hard, and believe in the last minute.

Work hard until the last breath

Work hard even in the last moments of life. Don’t stop because of frustration about what the outcome will be. All obstacles, impossibilities, or fears are weightless and they certainly cannot hinder any work.

Keep striving and leave it to Allah to decide when and how it will bear fruit. Work with complete confidence, if there is an obstacle in any work, do not give up.

This is the path of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companion. He has always worked without thinking about what will happen after a while. However, he knew that the Quraish could conspire against him and kill him. He and his believing companions may starve to death in the midst of the brutal siege of the Quraish. The evil hands of the disbelievers could reach them at any time.

But in spite of all the hardships, he has relied on Allah. Until Allah decides, He will continue to strive. This is the path of the Prophet (peace upon him).

It is not your job to try and figure out what the outcome will be. So follow the path that our Prophet (peace upon him) has followed.
