Work on Egypt’s first nuclear power plant will start next year
The Nuclear Power Plants Authority has confirmed the expected issuance of a permit for the construction of the Dabaa nuclear power plant from the second half of next year.
Built 130km northwest from Cairo, this will be Egypt’s first nuclear power plant.
It is anticipated that 85 percent of the costs will be paid through a Russian loan. Egypt will begin repaying the sum from 2029 over a course 22 years at 3 percent interest.
The remainder of the costs will be covered by the Egyptian government.
